About the role
The main purpose of the Compliance Officer role is to ensure that PwC is conducting its business in full compliance with all national and international laws and regulations that pertain to the industries in which we operate, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal standards.
The candidate will form part of a larger team in Africa and report to Africa General Counsel. The candidate will play a crucial role in the greater risk management function in Africa. The candidate is required to work alongside members of the risk management and general counsel teams in various countries across Africa in supporting the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
Interpreting various legislation and regulatory frameworks;
Performing all reporting duties as required by various compliance legislation, including but not limited to:
Johannesburg Stock Exchange;
Council for Medical Schemes;
Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; and
Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors.
Reporting non-compliance issues both externally (for example, Non-Compliance with Laws and Regulations or NOCLAR, Reportable Irregularities) and internally (for example, non-compliance with internal policies and procedures);
Leading the Africa Firm’s client and third party onboarding process (“Know Your Client”);
Perform and document risk assessments across various countries as it relates to compliance activities;
Design and implement controls to monitor compliance with existing internal business policies, procedures and controls (including risk management standards present in each Line of Service);
Updating and implementing internal policies, procedures and controls where changes are required;
Developing and delivering training to various stakeholders in the business;
Responding to enquiries and consultations from Business on a day-to-day basis; and
Assume responsibility for implementation and monitoring of Global Risk Management Standards around:
COMPETENCIES / SKILLS
Relevant financial qualification advantageous
Professional services experience advantageous
Prior compliance experience advantageous
Knowledge of the regulatory environment of a professional services firm advantageous
Display sound leadership skills
The ability to think critically and solve complex problems efficiently and practically.
Self-motivated and attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact with staff at various levels and across Africa.
