Group Manager Compliance and Ethics

A unique opportunity exists for a suitably qualified, dynamic and skilled person to join the Compliance and Ethics Department in the Governance and Assurance division based at Corporate Office.


Key Performance Outputs

The successful candidate, reporting to the Group Executive Governance and Assurance will be responsible for the following:

  • Develop and lead implementation of compliance and ethics strategy to achieve business objectives within the necessary frameworks;
  • Lead compliance monitoring processes to legislation, rules, codes, standards, policies and procedures within the company and report issues of non-compliance to Executive Management and relevant committees;
  • Develop, review and raise awareness regarding the company’s Compliance Management Policy and Framework;
  • Design and build compliance programs to minimise instances of non-compliance to ethical processes and procedures;
  • Manage the effectiveness and adequacy of risks associated with fraud and ethics;
  • Ensure that fraud and corruption plan is implemented and adhered to within the business;
  • Develop and Monitor ACSA Regulatory Universe;
  • Quarterly reporting on compliance status based on company and subsidiary compliance profile;
  • Compile, implement and effectively manage the approved budgets, report variances and monitor the implementation of remedial actions to minimise impact;
  • Lead and provide guidance on the maintenance of compliance and risk systems;
  • Build, support and maintain healthy diverse internal (peers, unions, team) as well as external (service providers etc.) relationships and implement remedial action where required to ensure minimum compliance risk to the company.

Technical Skills and Experience

The following skills and experience or the equivalent of such, will be required:
  • A Bachelors’ Degree in Law/Auditing/Commerce is essential;
  • Postgraduate diploma in Compliance/Ethics/Risk Management is essential;
  • 6 years’ Operational experience in areas of Compliance and Ethics Management;
  • 2 years’ Management experience with a working knowledge of policy drafting and reviews;
  • Registration with the Compliance Institute of South Africa is recommended;
  • Registration with the Institute of Risk Management South Africa is recommended;
  • Understanding of relevant Compliance, Risk and Ethics software;
  • Knowledge of Compliance, Risk and Ethics processes and relevant Legislation.

The successful incumbent must be a well composed communicator with well-developed verbal communication skills. This role requires an individual who is comfortable with working in an ever-changing environment, whilst developing others. The successful candidate must also be a detail orientated, ethical and a diplomatic individual who exercises good judgement when making decisions. The ideal candidate is a politically astute individual who possesses the ability to manage the dynamics within an organisation as well as the ability to build social networks internally as well externally. Furthermore, the ability to solve challenging problems will be recognized through the use of a combination of intuition and analytical thinking.
